Ola friends,
Today we’d like to take a little break from sharing on jewelry hacks to discuss some business nuggets. We are in a season that has so many of us thinking of alternative sources of income with all the uncertainties that have come from the pandemic we are in.
This is both an exciting and worrying thing all together. Exciting because so many people are exploring their God-given gifts and establishing entities that express their identity, which is really amazing. Worrying because so many people are doing it out of pressure, which ends up not going so well.
First things first, starting a business is not as easy as it sounds on these streets, as cliché as that may sound. The starting bit always sounds exciting until it hits you that you have to bring it up like you would a baby. That’s why I highly advocate that you start only when you have God’s greenlight. There are so many industries you can jump into out here. You could get into cooking, teaching, fashion, construction…the list goes on and on. There however has to be a bigger vision that just the fact that something looks like fun or profitable. There are days that are not as cute and the only thing that’ll take you through such days is the vision engraved in your heart.
(We did a series on ‘Trading God’s Way’ a while back, you could head over there and read through some of the things we shared) https://3l.co.ke/brassed-crafts/ministry/trade-gods-way/
That said, let’s get into some things that’ll help you effectively start and run your own business eey?
- Understand your vision.
We cannot emphasize on the need to understand your vision enough guys. It is very important to have a clear vision for your business that you very well understand. You’d rather tarry a little till you get all the clarity you need before jumping in. Having a clear vision is what will get you through days that are not as exciting, and it’s what will help you make decisions. Everything you do in your business should always be aligned to the vision, ultimately.
2. Listen and learn.
You can never get to a point in business where you feel you have it all figured out. Starting and running a business needs you to constantly learn. It doesn’t matter how long someone else has been in business, it’s always wise to listen and learn from the people you encounter. Not everything may be necessary to take up, but never at any point feel you are at the peak. It’s a constant learning process. Listen to clients, followers, friends, mentors and even fellow entrepreneurs, and learn (applying wisdom of course)
3. Be patient.
Now, we know this is something you’ve probably heard oh too many times, but it’s very important. Our generation has been accused of being so impatient, we’ve been referred to as the ‘microwave generation’, we want everything ready and successful now. There’s more to business than just making money folks. We hear so much about successful entrepreneurs who worked for quite some time before they became the household names we know today. The difference is patience, constantly seeing the vision and being resilient. Understanding that what you’re doing is bigger than you, getting over yourself. Imagine if the founders of some of the products and services we love gave up coz their businesses were taking long to become grand…
4. Be diligent.
This right here, is something we could talk about forever. I remember a time when I’d get so excited whenever I’d make a sale and I’d immediately go and buy something absolutely unnecessary. This got me in very awkward positions, where I’d need money to restock but I didn’t have any. Look, there’s grace availed for us to produce excellence, but we cannot afford to be reckless. Diligence with the gifts God gives us is a Kingdom principle, we are stewards not the owners. It cuts across, from finances to time and all other resources. You are not really your own boss,
The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. Psalm 24:1)
5. Don’t forget to breathe.
When all is said and done, you need rest and refuel. Entrepreneurs are so often accused of being workaholics, especially when starting up, you know that point where you are everything? While working hard is important, please remember to breathe. Take a day or a few hours off, don’t neglect the other aspects of your life. Be intentional about your time with God, your friends and your family. Don’t get so consumed in running things that you run out. Breathe!
There’s so much we could share on but that’s what we are able to tackle for now. We hope it’ll be beneficial to y’all, and that you’ll pick something for yourself or a friend.
Let us know if this is something you’d want us to talk more on, and we’ll definitely look into it. Your feedback is always valued.
Love and Light!
Thank you for this Wangechi!
