‘SEEK TO KNOW’

Proverbs 25:2

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

We’re living at a time when there’s so much that can be done with regards to career, whether it is in terms of business or employment. Any industry you think about be it food, fashion, construction, technology.. you name it, has such a vast variety of spaces to be explored. Now this can be both a good and a bad thing. Good because, well one can pretty much transform anything into a business and bad because not everything is the will of God over your life.

Most of us, if not all of us can attest to the external pressure that comes about at the point when one has graduated and is now seeking to advance their careers. So many people succumb to this and just get into anything that can be done, without stopping to seek God’s counsel.

Proverbs 19:21

There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel- that will stand.

People start businesses almost every other day, especially when jobs don’t seem to be forthcoming. While there are factors to be considered when choosing a business venture, the Lord’s counsel is primary. As people who identify as Christians and have accepted the Lordship of Christ, we cannot make any decisions apart from Christ. We need to seek to know from the onset what God is calling us to establish as a business. He doesn’t ask us to ask and we shall receive, seek and we shall find, knock and the door shall be opened (Mathew 7:7) in vain.

We do not just randomly set up businesses in the Kingdom. We agree and partner with God’s agenda on earth that His Kingdom may be established in the different industries He sends us to. When we understand that it’s not about us, the money or the popularity, then we are able to effectively establish Kingdom businesses. It is therefore necessary for us to seek before we set up anything. It is here that God reveals His vision for what He calls us to set up, and it is this vision that we move in.

God is faithful. He avails when we diligently seek with all our hearts. Seeking first is a Kingdom culture that we all need to adopt as heirs of God. The will of God is one we cannot afford to be oblivious of. The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16). It doesn’t matter what’s trending, how much capital you have, how ‘flooded’ the market is or what people suggest what is born of God overcomes the world.

Take a step back and see the heart of God concerning you, then move in that direction.
